Online applications have a $50 fee with immediate approval, while mail applications also have a $50 fee but take 10-15 days for approval.

How to Obtain an Alaska Business License Online
Get started: Visit the Alaska Division of Business Licensing: Online Business License Application.
- Enter the name of your Alaska LLC, including “LLC” or “L.L.C.” abbreviation.
- Choose your Primary Line of Business from the dropdown menu. If there isn’t an exact match, pick the closest option.
- Select your Primary NAICS Code from the dropdown. Again, if there’s no exact match, choose the nearest option.Optional: Choose your Secondary Line of Business and NAICS Code if you operate in multiple industries.
- Provide your mailing address, physical address (if different), and phone number.
- Under Ownership Type, choose “Corporation, LLC, LLP, LP, etc.”
- Enter your Entity Number and click “Validate.” Find your Entity Number by searching the Alaska Division of Corporations: Search Corporations Database. Need help?: If you can’t find your Entity Number, contact the Corporations Section at 907-465-2550.
- Enter your full name and then your title, such as “Member.”
- Select a one-year ($50) or two-year ($100) license. then Click “Proceed to Payment.”
- Enter your billing information and email address. Click “Continue” to complete your payment.
How to Obtain an Alaska Business License via Mail
Download the latest application form: New Business License Application (Form 08-4181)
Prepare an envelope with the following items:
- New Business License Application
- A check or money order for $50, payable to the “State of Alaska”

How can you acquire a copy of your Business License?
To obtain a copy of your Business License online: Head over to the Alaska Division of Business Licensing’s Search Business Licenses page. Then:
- Search using your business name (or use the license number if available)
- Click on the license number next to your business name
- Select the “Print Business License” option
To get a copy of your Business License by mail: Complete a “Request for Duplicate Business License” and submit a $5 fee.

When does an Alaska Business License expire?
If you obtain your Alaska Business License prior to October 1, it will expire on December 31 of the current year.
If you secure your Alaska Business License after October 1, it will expire on December 31 of the next year.
For instance, if your Business License was granted on July 15, 2025, it will expire on December 31, 2025.
Conversely, if your Business License was granted on November 15, 2025, it will expire on December 31, 2026.
Update Your Business License
Your Business License needs renewal every 1 or 2 years (based on your original application):
- The renewal fee for one year is $50
- The fee for a two-year renewal is $100
You have the option to renew your license by mail or online. Renewing online is much simpler and quicker than doing it by mail.

Exemptions from Business License in Alaska
You are not required to obtain an Alaska Business License if your business is involved in any of the following activities:
- fisheries
- liquor sales
- insurance
- mining
- investment club
